BIS hosted "Thomas Alva Edison" from Mobile Ed on Thursday, October 1. These "living history" performances tied in nicely with curricular studies such as inventions and electricity. Students had the opportunity to participate in various demonstrations including static electricity, sending a message on an actual telegraph key, and operating a crank generator to light a series of light bulbs.

ArtReach from Cincinnati will be here on Friday, October 23. Red Riding Hood will be performed at 9:45 for 3rd grade and Treasure Island will be performed for 4th grade at 12:55 and for 5th grade at 2:00. All in the cafeteria.

After an eight year hiatus, the RAA theater committee has decided to bring back a version of the Boar’s Head and Yule Log Festival at the Sister’s Chapel during Oldenburg’s “Holiday Under the Spires” Christmas extravaganza December 5th at 7 PM. They’ve made some major changes, including the name. It will now be called The Wassail, Tannenbaum and Boar’s Head Festival.

Audition/sign-ups will be held in the former Meyers funeral home (502 W Pearl) this Thursday, October 1 from 4:00-7:00 PM.

There are roles for actors 8-100 years old. Participants need to plan to stay about 45 minutes, including costume fittings. There are a few speaking parts, a lot of non-speaking parts, and a couple of solos. Singers will need to sing a Christmas carol as an audition piece.

One of the changes to make this simpler is there are no expectations to memorize lines. There are 3 narrators who explain the traditions and lots of carols to enhance the story. There is a host of characters acting out the dialogue or lyrics. And of course there is a choir lending their voices as part of the festival. Most songs are traditional Christmas carols so the entire congregation can sing along.
