On Friday, May 19, Batesville Primary School held a Reading Rocks concert to celebrate the reading progress they have made throughout the year and to kick off summer reading! Thaddeus Rex encouraged students to read books to get ideas for their writing. He also offered advice for budding musicians, encouraging them to take the time they spend playing video games and instead practice the guitar (or piano, or violin, etc.).
Marla Butke, Ph.D., directs the Women's Chorale at Otterbein University and teaches Choral Methods at Capital University in Ohio. Recently retired as full professor at Ashland University, she has also taught music education courses at Xavier University, The Ohio State University, and Ohio Wesleyan University. The Young Artist Showcase competition, sponsored by the Rural Alliance for the Arts, honors students in grades 6-12 for accomplishments in five arts areas – drama, music, art, dance and creative writing.
