Start-Spangled Banner Mayor Bettice Introduction

Join the City of Batesville, Batesville Area Arts Council, and the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra (ISO) in celebrating 5 years of the Star-Spangled Symphony in Batesville.

The Star-Spangled Symphony will be held Thursday, June 29, 2023. Gates open at the Gillespie Soccer Plex at 6:00 p.m. EST with the performance beginning at 8:00 p.m.

This free event is open to the public and will feature a world-class symphony performance paired with a professional fireworks display. The program will include patriotic favorites and orchestra showpieces under the artistic leadership of Alfred Savia and feature vocalist Vanessa Thomas, a longtime vocalist for Doc Severinsen and Kansas City native. The fifth year of this event will be a combination of past and new experiences. The symphony will once again close with the 1812 Overture and its original fireworks display. There will be more food choices this year to aid in the enjoyment of the night.

"We consider ourselves very lucky to have such an amazing cultural event in our backyards! This is the very same show at Conner Prairie in Indianapolis that many people pay a big amount to see! We hope that you join us again to witness a wonderful night of musical talent and fireworks,” Sarah Heppner, Executive Director, Batesville Area Arts Council.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their families and friends, lawn chair, picnic blanket, tarp (if the ground is wet), a wagon or rolling cooler and a flashlight. Refreshments will be available for purchase.

Handicap parking is available on Gillespie Drive. Event volunteers will assist with transporting guests and will provide directions to onsite parking spaces. Additional parking within walking distance is available at Liberty Park and on surrounding streets.

Concert cancellation due to weather will be reported here, via the BAAC’s social media sites, and WRBI’s website and social media.
