On April 17th, the Oldenburg Academy Orchestra hosted composer Darryl Johnson.
Darryl Johnson II (b. 1984) is a native of Southern California. An early interest in music led him to study several instruments as well as music theory, composition, and orchestration. A lengthy background in music transcription and arranging has fostered a growing interest in diverse musical styles, yielding a fresh, personal style that comprises a patchwork of music old, new, popular, and traditional.
On Tuesday, April 9 Tap Team Two was at BPS presenting the history of Tap Dancing (Hoofing) in America to 1st & 2nd-grade students. They learned about dance from long ago and today. Kindergarten students enjoyed the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears with each character represented by a different tap step. All students were able to try out the seven basic steps of tap.
On Monday, April 8 the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra presented their Teddy Bear Concert Series to BPS Little Bulldog Academy and kindergarten students. Students participated in a story about a ladybug finding her song as they were introduced to five orchestra instruments. Each student was able to try their hand at playing the violin and the harp at the conclusion of the show.
Mosaic Artist, Vicki Murphy, visited BPS February 25th – March 1st. She guided the students on their creation of a beautiful Mosaic Wing Mural. Every BPS student participated by placing their tesserae inside the wings. Students learned the history and process about this ancient art form while creating a unique, interactive space in our school.
Guest Artist, Patrick Durkin, visited BPS on March 15th. Students learned about the famous artist, Henri Matisse, and students created artwork in his style. The students had so much fun using their scissors and color to design their masterpieces.
